The rise and fall of grunge,,,
This topic is a small tribute to grunge, plus its like a small study or a written documentary about how grunge went sky high then hitting rock bottom.
through out the topic, if you are new to the whole grunge genre, you'll find that I mentioned album names and i also posted some songs to listen to so i hope you like the topic guys....
well before bands like nirvana and pearl jam hit the scenes a number of small bands contributed in shaping grunge and helped in putting the corner stone for the whole scene.
green river for some people this is one of the main bands that influenced the grunge sound by releasing the EP Come on Down
another influncial release was the mix album deep six
we cant also forget about bands like mother love bone and temple of the dog, which are considered to be grunge legends, and they r legend, actually temple of the dog's self titled album is one of grunge's best releases, and mother love bone's album apple is really awesome and it features awesome tracks like crown of thorns and this is shangrila.

so yes grunge existed way before the 90s, as i said the grunge movement began in the mid 80s but what happened?? how did this local underground movement turn into a phenomena and succeeded in overshadowing the LA glam scene??
1- singles, a rom/com movie released in the early 90s what is famous about the movie is not the movie itself, but believe it or not its the soundtrack, the movie's soundtrack contained a lot of grunge songs by different bands, the album contained hits like i nearly lost you, state of love and trust and would? Critics consider this soundtrack as one of the keys that opened the doors for grunge to the mainstream audience.
2- The nirvanamania, yup like hulkmania, nirvana's album never mind was the IT factor that brought grunge to the next level, you may say that the album is overrated but people liked it, it contains songs like the fan favourite smells like teen spirit and come as you are.
3- the release of nevermind gave a push for other bands like pearl jam, alice in chains and sound garden, with albums like ten ,facelift and badmotorfinger, grunge was sure moving on the right track.
4- MTV, yup when MTV sees a chance it sure knows how to use it, with heavy airing for grunge videos and music, the channel sure gave the scene a good push.
..........
Things seemed smooth right? sold out arenas and concerts, albums were sold in millions, videos receiving heavy air play, heavy radio play, the fans are crazy with grunge,& kurt cobain became a god, what could go wrong??
sadly in the mid 90s, grunge began to hit rock bottom, the fall of grunge was really nasty, so what happened??
1- The suicide of the icon kurt cobain, after a long battle with addiction and the fact that he hated the whole being famous thing, led him to commit suicide, so this sadly led to disbanding nirvana.
2- Layne Staley was also fighting his demons, as he was fighting his drug addiction so his relation with the band got worse so as you may know the band collapsed, sadly in 2002 staley died.
3- Pearl jam were fighting a war against ticketmaster, which led the band not to play any shows in the USA for 3 years.
4- the appearance of new genres like post grunge also the decline of grunge's popularity because post grunge was more radio friendly and mainstream.
5- In 2009, alice in chains released a new album called black gives way to blue,
sound garden also reunited, plus pearl jam succeed in making a loyal fan base, and frankly they were the only grunge band that didn't disband and succeeded in keeping themselves alive.
